| She chose to stay in abusive relationships because that's all she knew. According to interviews of her friends she was tough and she would even hit guys. Of course everyone knows that her boyfriends/managers were abusive. I'm just pointing out that there's a whole other side to her that most people don't know about. For example she would on occasion dress up as a man and "pimp" other women. Rent "The Many Faces Of Lady Day" and you'll know what I'm talking about. Do your research. |

| You can draw your own conclusions. Read the biography "The Many Faces Of Lady Day" and you'll see that she was a complex individual who defied categorization. I'm only going on what I read in the book and saw in the documentary. Obviously I wasn't there so I'll never know for certain what she was really like. |
