Yep. The powers that be see rap as a way to control and corrupt rather than an art form. Thats why cuts like this seem so detached from what is ocnsidered mainstream these days.
The talent is still out there but we just dont get to hear it.

A friend of mine I grew up with went to high school w Q-tip...I remember being over his house when a video came on for a De La Soul song that Q-tip was in - we called his house but he wasn't home. These guys capture 1991 so well...like a time capsule or something.

I was watching a documentary about male violence the other day. It included A Tribe Called Quest as one of the positive rap forms, and influencial male groups.
This is one of the first Tribe songs I heard and I fell in love, then I dowloaded The Low End Theroy and it blew my mind.
I was born in 91' but, Tribe is way better than anything out there now. Now I only listen to 90's hip hop because of this group.
